The… actors of Comedia de’ll Arte at the service of Kefalonian gastronomy..

When we first contacted the designer of our new products packaging, we tried to give him an outlook on what we had in our minds.

We walked him through the history of our company, the origin of our products, how they managed to secure a place in the Kefalonian gastronomy, their evolution through the decades, how copper took the place of the skadaleto and how the first electrically powered whisker took over the tradition hand whisk.

We talked to him about the era when the Venetian’s ruled the island and how the barbers of their time used to treat to the aristocrats the traditional hard torrone or soft nougat after providing them with their services. He comprehended the difficulty of importing sugar at the time while there were numerous almond trees available and he witnessed the abundance of quince trees available at Lixouri that provide us with top quality quince for our comfeto.

He saw the sea weed that was used to create the first red color for mandola and how the little girls used to wear the red color as lipstick.

We showed him the history of our family workshop with our photos and introduced him to our family’s coat of arms.

And with this history tour we brought him to our present, where our company has received numerous awards and the ISO 22000 certification that certifies that our production line has complied to the international standards of production. We asked him to combine all of the pieces of our past and present and use them as his vehicle to create our new packaging, connect the history of Kefalonia with the history of Voskopoula and our modern company’s face in order to design new environmental and costumer friendly packaging that can assure the consumer of the quality of the product and it’s authenticity.

Our gifted partner used all the information we provided him with and presented us with exactly what we needed, the Comedia de’ll Arte figures.

These figures have their roots in the Italian street comedy scene, where the actors of the Comedia de’ll Arte theater were called artisans because they used to transform a play with their acting just like the artisans of Voskopoula used to work with sugar, almonds, milk and many other ingredients and transform them in unique sweets.

Some of these sweets, like our mandola, are recognized throughout the globe! Our figures are colored after the fruit or the sweet they represent and the new design is also kid friendly.

Pantalone, Colombina, Capitano, Dottoro, Arleckin and Pierroto serve the mandola, the comfeto, the nougat, the sesame snack, the mandola with honey.

The new designs take the consumer back to the beginning of our company and offer him with all the nutritional information needed as well as with information regarding the production line. We also plan on enhancing our products line with more figures for the rest of our products!
